A well kept secret. Just half an hour away from Perth there is John Forrest National Park. The Park was named after Mr. John Forrest, a Western Australian explorer. Around 1900 there used to be a train line connecting the Perth’s city folk to the bush, the remainders of a tunnel are still there and can be looked at. Now the Great Eastern Highway serves that purpose...

Cost: AUD$8,- per car
Activities: bird watching, wild orchids and flowers, bush-walking, photography, barbecues
Recommendable: In spring and summer bring suntan lotion and head cover with you, since the temperatures can be high and the sun intense. Take a bottle of water for a longer walk. Also useful are firm shoes with good tread.
