This
is my hometown. A city of two hundred thousand people,
pulsating but still laid back due to its warm climate.
Temperatures can reach up to 38 degrees Celsius in summer
and in winter it is the mildest place. All up – climate
wise – Freiburg has it all, lots of sunny days, a bit of
snow and …lots of sunny days... |

Schlappen
|
Loewenstr.
2, alternative student pub, warm atmosphere, prices range
from DM 5,- to DM20,- for food dishes, recommendable are the
salads, pizzas, potato plate with garlic sauce (great choice
in vegitarian dishes). Beers cost from DM 3,90 for 0.3L - my
favourite |
Paradis
|
Mathildenstr.
28, near the Uni-Klinik (hospital), wonderfully decorated
rustic style pub-restaurant, with simple dark wooden tables
and chairs, reminding of a medieval style. Great menu,
affordable prices (from DM 15,-/person), loads of steak
dishes, for those who like it (Veal in times of BSE-Free
periods). You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Try
Vanilla Ice cream with hot raspberry sauce for desert (DM
8,-, huge plate). |
Freiburger
Salatstuben
|
Loewenstr.
1, as the name says: loads of salads |
Martinsbraeu
Gasthof
|
at
the Martinstor (on the opposite side from MC' Donalds),
traditional German cuisine, homemade beer (a bit thin for my
taste), prices range from DM 15,-/ hot dish upwards, try the
"Knoepfle Schwarzwaelder Art" if you are into
noudle dishes. It is homemade pasta in a buttery cream and
mushroom sauce with a bit of salad. |

Cafe

Gerberau
12, near Martinstor, smoke free cafe, lots of family
visitors, ecologically sound catering, wonderful
"healthy" whole meal base cakes (DM 4,50/piece),
great place to relax. Paintings get exhibited. The cafe
closes for business at 5pm to make room for the small
theatre program. |

Cafe

Wilhelmstr.15,
near the main train station. alternative Bookshop attached
to a cafe. One of the many gathering points of the cities
intellectual lefties. On some evenings the cafe is used as a
