A 30 minute ride on a speedy boat will get you from Fremantle Jetty to Rottnest Island. Fremantle is Perth's Habour town (also about 20 to 30 minutes away from Perth). Fremantle has a great café strip and restaurants, which offer delicious meals. In summer the atmosphere is wonderful. There are lots of people on the streets, sitting outside the cafes or visiting the Fremantle markets (fresh food growers, knick-knacks… also worth seeing) and street artists put on their shows...

Best Time for Water Activities: Summer to autumn (late morning to early afternoon, due to calm sea) 
Location: 18km from the coast, Habour town Fremantle, the island is about 10km wide and can be circled comfortably in a few hours
Cost: AUD$30,- return per person
Activities: bird watching, snorkelling, diving, surfing, walking, cycling, tennis, golf
Recommendable: Suntan lotion and head cover, since the temperatures can be high and the sun intense, bottles of water, avoid sunbathing during midday hours
Shops & other facilities: Thompson Bay has the General Store, where everything from medical items to groceries is available at normal prices (same as Perth prices). The islands hospital and police station are also at this bay. ATM's are also placed at the General Store vicinity.
